What is landmine free 2025?
Landmine Free 2025 is a campaign to re-energise global support to landmine clearance and ensure people affected by landmines are not forgotten. 33 countries and territories have been cleared, but 58 are still contaminated. Over 60 million people live at risk from landmines and unexploded bombs. This campaign is a call to action to work together to do more, and faster.
WHY 2025?
Completing clearance by 2025 was a commitment made at the Maputo Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty in 2014. Governments recommitted to this goal at the Oslo Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty in 2019.
34 states also have legal commitments or plans to complete clearance sooner. Only a few states are on track.

What needs to change?
Landmines affect more than a quarter of the world's countries but only 0.2% of overseas aid is spent on clearing them. There needs to be more international funding for landmine clearance as well as greater national budget commitment from affected states. There needs to be stronger partnerships between donors, clearance organisations and national authorities. We all need to work more closely, with clear plans, more measurable milestones and more efficient practices.
What are we asking you to do?
States: Work with us to increase government funding and aid for mine action. Polling in the UK showed that 78% of the public support it. Use your embassies to support country-level and regional dialogue and increase national funding.
|
Mine Action NGOs: Join the Landmine Free 2025 campaign, and work more closely with each other and with national authorities to support or develop plans for clearance and the funding to achieve it.
|
Civil Society: Work with us to get people behind clearance and campaign to increase government and private support to complete clearance and ensure people affected by landmines are not forgotten.
